As a contractor, I have seen the result of unsealed surfaces that have constant contact with water. The water damage can be extensive and cause many different problems:

Wood rot: wood that is unsealed and exposed to water on a regular basis will begin to rot and become structurally unsound. Even if the wood is pressure treated, it should be sealed at least once yearly to avoid rot.

Foundation troubles: the constant flow of water has made amazing views in nature such as the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls, but you don’t want that same water slowly destroying your home or business’ foundation. Water is the most common foundation issue because it is everywhere.

Mold: mold can be a health hazard and destroys certain types of siding and wood.

One of the best ways to protect the exterior of your home is with exterior wall coatings that prevent moisture and water from penetrating the surface of wood and porous concrete. These wall coverings serve a dual purpose of protecting the structure and seriously improving the structures look and aesthetic appeal.

Foundation issues should be resolved with proper drainage around the structure. Water finds the path of least resistance and flows in that direction. If the path of least resistance leads to a puddle sitting against your foundation, you could be in trouble.
You could have the land graded to force the water around the structure. French drains also work well at moving water.

Simply take a long pipe with holes in the top

Wrap with landscape paper

Bury in the ground about six inches down

Cover with rocks

And one to one half inch of sod

Your water issues will be resolved.

When your home has become damaged by water or fire, or both, you need to act quickly and find a reliable, reputable water damage restoration service. Assuming your insurance coverage will deal with fire and water damage, a fire and water damage restoration service can give you a ball park figure on the cost of the repairs. Make sure you find a restoration company that works with insurance companies, most do. But definitely ask for referrals and find out if the company you are dealing with is, in fact, reputable and reliable.

The first thing you’ll want to do after suffering fire and water damage, is to remove items from the area that was damaged. If the damage was extensive, you may want to seek professional dry cleaning, carpet and furniture cleaning companies to restore your clothing, carpets and furniture. If you attempt to do this yourself, be sure very sure you know what you are doing. Inexperience can further damage your prized possessions. If you aren’t sure what you should do first, refer to your restoration company or call your insurance agent. They will be able to help guide you through the first steps in restoring your home and life back to normal.

Here are some water damage tips:

1. Stop the source of the water as soon as possible.

2. Blot up as much water as possible, if possible.

3. Remove small items and area rugs (not carpet) from heavily damaged floors and walls immediately.

4. Don’t wait, the longer you wait the worse the damage. And mold could make the issue worse very quickly.

5. Have the water removed and the floors/walls dried out by a professional to unsure no issues linger or show up again later.

If you act quickly and have your home restored professionally, you absolutely can see your home restored to what it was before. Don’t wait, or procrastinate, have a professional give you a quote and get started as soon as possible. Mold is another issue you don’t want to have to deal with.

Are you looking to place a bay window in your home? Do you wish you could save a little bit of money when buying your new window? How about getting a bay window for free, would you like that even better? If you want to get free bay windows then there is a way to make that happen and all you have to do is go around looking for them. What most people do not understand is the fact that a lot of people will just give away a bay window because they don’t want it sitting at their house forever and they certainly know they won’t be needing it later on.

Construction projects – The first place I suggest looking for free bay windows are construction projects and the reason is because they always keep the windows fully intact. The reason why contractors will keep a bay window intact is because they are easier to pick up and throw away if it is just one big piece as opposed to many small pieces. This is important to remember because this could save you a lot of money on a bay window if you just go to a construction yard and see what you can find.

Window companies – Another place to get free bay windows is at a window company and the reason they are normally free is because they pull them from houses and then have nothing to use them for. What you need to understand is that when a window company pulls an old bay window from a house they will normally keep it in case they could use it on another project but usually when they do this they don’t have anybody that wants an older window, therefore it sits there and just collects dust.

The last thing you need to know is that bay windows are easy to find as long as there are construction projects going on in your town. If there are no construction projects going on then that will mean that the work is slow and odds are a contractor or a window company won’t give you a free window when they could sell it to you and make a little bit of money.

Storm windows can do just what their name implies. These windows will protect you from bad storms. In the southern states you see many hurricanes and tropical storms pass through. Your normal windows will break out easily if you are caught in one of these. Storm windows on the other hand are made to withstand bad weather and wind. They are thicker and stronger than the normal window is and will hold up better under poor weather conditions. In the north they use storm windows to help keep out the cold. By doing this the storm windows save you money in energy costs. In the south there may not be much cold weather but there certainly is plenty of hot weather. Many storm windows are insulated and will keep the heat out while keeping the interior of the home cool. When you have such high temperatures to contend with you will want storm windows to save you energy.

As good as storm windows are, and as strong as they are they cannot withstand everything. You will want to cover your windows when a hurricane threatens your area. This is for the safety of all your possessions not just the windows. Don’t take a chance during a hurricane. You hurricane shutters to cover all of your windows. If it is due to hit you directly plan an evacuation route. Don’t take chances with a hurricane. People die from them all of the time.

Strong winds often affect the south along with severe electrical storms. The storm windows will keep all of this bad weather out. You want to keep the weather out of your home because it can be very damaging to your property. By using these windows you will save large amounts of money.

When it comes to installing windows you are going to need to hire a professional. They know how to fit the windows in properly and will see to it that they are well sealed. If you are attempting to install storm windows yourself make sure you have some knowledge of what to do. Some storm windows will come with a guarantee as long as they are installed by a professional. Take this into consideration before doing the installations yourself.

Today building a practical durable house is very important for a lot of people but making it look stylish is also on the agenda of most house owners. Luckily there is a material that looks great, is strong and durable, which makes it very popular among construction workers and designers. Stucco is truly a great type of material that has many advantages over other similar materials because it is very attractive, it can be used in a variety of very attractive colours and be protected from the environment outside with the help of special coatings.

Choosing a Stucco Contractor Toronto company is easy if you go online and make sure you look at the best profiles and portfolios of contractors working with stucco. It’s always advisable to look for professional advice before you start your project, plan the budget in advance and come up with original artistic concepts.

Besides being a great material to take care of the facades and exteriors, stucco can also be used in the home itself because it is great for mouldings, trims and wall systems. Exterior architectural mouldings vary in design and include sils, bands, trims, columns, pilasters, keystones, arches and bows. It is possible to find the best variant suitable for every client.

Just because you are tight on budget does not mean you can not entertain ideas for basement remodeling project. Renovating or remodeling your home can be quite an expensive pastime, even if you are only planning to do some repainting. However, if you decide to remodel an entire living space or even utilize an empty room to produce something from square one your project can seriously burn a hole in your pocket. One important thing you should do in this case is to stick to a tight budget and assign a set amount for every step of the project.

Even with a limited budget, there are still so many ideas for basement remodeling. For one, you should start with the important stuff before going on to, for instance, deciding on the type of decorative lighting you wish to incorporate into your basement. Waterproof your basement first and foremost, as dampness and other water problems is really a main issue in most basements.

Clean out and get rid of the junk and moldy items inside your basement once your basement has been waterproofed. Jot down and draw out every idea you have on paper. If you have a clearer picture of what you want to do with your basement, the less likely you are going to spend on useless materials and equipment.

Basement lighting can also enhance your basement without you having to spend so much. When working on basement lighting, make sure you also utilize natural lighting. This means using the sunlight or other sources of lighting from the outside of your home to brighten up your dark basement. You do not have to spend on natural lighting, so you would want to take advantage as much of it as possible by using larger windows or glass blocks, French doors and mirrors to reflect more light.

You can save on lighting by doing away with incandescent lighting. Although it radiates a warm, soft light it is not very efficient. Fluorescent tubing is much more economical, however, it does not produce a glow that is as attractive. Thus, the key here is to combine lighting while keeping in mind how they are going to be used. Are you mainly going to read in the basement? Do you really need bright lighting if youre going to use the basement mainly for entertainment purposes?

Then there is the basement ceiling. Install a suspended ceiling. With a suspended ceiling, you have better access to wiring and other parts of the area where you can easily install things like lighting fixtures and detectors. Suspended ceilings can also hide stains and cracks. In the long term, suspended ceilings are more economical, since they are more practical and allow you to easily make adjustments without the added costs.

You can also save on flooring by installing new floors on you own There are now products that are made of more affordable materials that can even imitate other materials that are otherwise more expensive, such as hardwood and granite. There are also products that are especially designed for do-it-yourself-ers where tiles have an adhesive side so they can be instantly installed.

Go for secondhand furniture to save even more. This way you wont also have to worry about getting them damaged or replacing them if ever sudden flooding occurs. As you can see there are several ideas for basement remodeling on a budget. You do not have to spend a fortune to achieve the finished basement of your dreams.

We always tend to overcrowd our homes with more or less useful objects, however large our living space may be. Therefor it often happens to find it impossible to discover a quiet place for working, relaxing or for hobbies. These situations can be dealt with by adopting alternative solutions which can improve your life.

Extra space can be found in a garden building. In many situations these small rooms have proved to be extremely efficient. There are several ways in which they can be used. Out of these three are more popular than the others. The large number of people working at home has lead to the appearance of garden offices. This increasing trend as well as the category of workaholics who need to work at home, too, have made this type of use very popular. They offer you the chance of being rather close to your family but also of enjoying silence when you need to work.

The aspect has also become very important in the contemporary world. Athletic appearance and slim bodies are widely appreciated. That is why having a personal gym is no longer luxury, but more a necessity. A garden gym helps you reduce the time you spend traveling to and from the gym and offers the comfortable alternative. That is how you and your entire family can visit this room whenever you wish, having the advantage of a quick trip to your house where you can have a shower and be ready to start your day.

For many persons garden studios are more appropriate as music rooms. Whether they use it in their leisure time to play the guitar and relax, or they are glad to practice for the next concert or show in a place where they can’t disturb anyone, they enjoy the comfort of a private space with soundproof walls. This also allows them to turn it into a recording studio if you have the necessary equipment.

As a personal spa, a playroom for the children, a guest room or an artist’s studio garden studios are just as suitable. The fact that they are very adaptable and that you can use them in several ways over the time is one of their greatest advantages.

Our plan is to create garden offices that make a connection between the individual and the environment, Eco friendly contemporary garden rooms that are made from naturally sustainable materials.

Many householders enjoy to watch birds in their yard. They proceed to great lengths to attract this type of wildlife to their homes. One of the most effective and most common methods of achieving this is the glass hummingbird feeder. They are equipped for luring in numerous members of this variety of bird.

With the consistent popularity of these units, manufacturers have scrambled to make sure that it has an adequate availability of brands to select from. But how can you make the right selection? Unfortunately, it’s hard to rely solely on price. There are other factors to consider.

How a glass hummingbird feeder is designed might be one difference within the price tags you may see. For instance, many feeders on the market may be mass produced in a factory, you can get a hand blown glass feeder. These are usually real works of art and lovely to show but will normally be more pricey as a result of time put into them.

Of course, all those colors in a glass hummingbird feeder are designed by different substances being added to the glass. Based upon what is used to create the colour of your bird feeder, you can find a pricey one or one which is pretty cheap.

The right unit will also need to be easy to look after. What that refers to is that you can easily fill and clean. An empty feeder is as useless as a dirty one – neither one will bring in the birds. You desire a model with a limited number of parts to clean out, or which can be easily lost, and is simple to fill with the nectar.

Considering where your model will be displayed will likely determine which style you acquire. Too big of a model will greatly reduce the available spots for it. Too small and you may be endlessly refilling it to keep up with demand. Also, some models affix to the outside of windows for easier viewing. Bigger units will not be able to be positioned there.

Also give some consideration to exactly where you shall be viewing the birds from while they sup. Will you be sitting on an outdoor garden bench or would you want to do it from the comfort from your recliner within the home?

Color is a second consideration, although it is not as essential as once believed. Years back, it was believed that this type of bird was fascinated by the color red. As a result, almost all feeders were made in this color. Now, scientists have found that red has no bearing on the appeal to the birds. So a glass hummingbird feeder can be virtually any color you desire with the exception of yellow, which tends to attract bees.

Are you interested in learning more about bird feeders among all choices and in addition the varied birding gadgets? Explore largebirdfeeder.org for additional information that can assist you with your watching birds and allure attempts.

Did you know that the earth’s soil gives out carbon dioxide in the atmosphere 10 times more than all human activity? This comes from the pill bugs, microbes, fungi and worms when they breathe, digest food and then die. Although in the past plants have been capable of absorbing carbon dioxide caused by small-scale tillages, this isn’t the case nowadays.

The increase of carbon dioxide in the air is the reason for the globe’s average temperature increase. The largest source is the soil tilled which releases much carbon dioxide. To minimize the effect of tilling can be done by mulching or sheet composting.

Good Fungi

The friendly type of fungi is known as vesicular-arbuscular-mycorrhizae or VAM. The VAM works harmoniously with plants because their filaments are beneficial to the root hairs of the plants. They are able to feed nutrients to plants such as potassium, zinc, copper and phosphorus. To compensate this, the plants give them carbon dioxide. A garden can be possible to grow even without tilling the soil this is done by mulching heavily to achieve a soft and friable soil.

Surplus Nitrogen

Many gardeners waste nitrogen and manures; farmers do otherwise. Farmers only need a quarter to a third of nitrogen to mix with an inch of compost, horse, or cow manure. Kate Burroughs of Sebastopol California, uses the same rule for her home-grown lettuce and sweet corns. When it comes to broccoli and pear trees, farmers only need a small amount. Notice that gardeners apply larger amounts of compost and manure than farmers. Obviously, they are not only wasting their fertilizer but also their money.

In order to avoid wastage is to do things moderately. Too much or too little is not a good habit. So this is the best advice for gardening.

We all know that wall stickers are easy to apply but how easy are they to remove? Simple with our step by step guide as the condition of the wall / surface, quality of the sticker and other factors will determine the ease of removal.

Wall removal

To trick is to make sure the paint is undamaged. Pulling the sticker too quickly may attach paint to it and also rip the sticker.

1.	Slowly pull at a corner to test the wall sticker and see how stuck it is. In a lot of cases it will come off quite easily without damaging the paint underneath.

2.	If the sticker is firmly stuck then use a hairdryer (on a warm setting) to slowly heat the corner, then once it starts getting easier to peel, apply heat to the next area as you slowly remove the sticker.

3.	Above all remain patient!

4.	If there is any residue left on the wall (not usually the case when heat is used) then use some soapy water to carefully remove. If this doesn’t work then a dedicated adhesive remover or even WD-40 should do the trick. As a last resort try some nail polish remover but use sparingly and test an area first.

Glass removal

Unfortunately as wall stickers adhere so well to glass they can be a bit harder to remove but at least you don’t have to worry about paint coming off with it! If you have a diy glass scraper then this can also be used in conjunction with the points below.

1.	Use a hairdryer! Use a hairdryer (on a medium setting) to carefully heat the corner. Slowly peel back the sticker whilst applying heat further in as you go.

2.	If there is any residue then try soapy water but if that doesn’t work then use wd-40 / a dedcated adhesive remover or if you don’t have either then nail polish remover (always try a small area first to test it and use sparingly).

Use the points above to make wall sticker removal hassle free. You’re then ready to apply some more wall stickers for a totally new look. Above all remain patient at all times!
